The 4th Leg of the OCBS “Members Only” Steelhead Tournament was held on Sunday 15 March 2020.

A chilly day with afternoon temperatures in the low forties. Rain events earlier in the week pushed good numbers of fresh fish into the river systems. Both the East and West side streams produced fish.  The majority of fish came from the Chagrin and Rocky Rivers which were in decent shape. The other legacy streams were marginal and just starting to come into shape with exception of the Grand and Vermillion which had high flows and turbidity.

A total of 20 fish over 24 inches in length were check in for the tournament.

Congratulations to Adam Hillman who placed First with two fish measuring 29.50 and 28.50 inches respectively.

The first leg of the OCBS Members Only Steelhead Tournament was held on Sunday November 3, 2019.

A sunny day with temperatures in the high-forties. Heavy rains earlier in the week pushed staging fish into the river systems. The East side streams were fishable despite elevated flows. The west side streams were running low and the majority of anglers chose to fish the east side streams.

Anglers reported a slow bite which was likely due to cold overnight temperatures which plummeted water temperatures in excess of ten degrees.

A total of 20 fish over 24-inches were checked in during the day.

The second leg of the OCBS “Members Only” Steelhead Tournament was held on Sunday November 24, 2019.

A partly cloudy day with temperatures in the low forties. The West-side streams were running low. The East-side streams had adequate flow and this is where the savvy anglers fished.

Large numbers of fish were not in the streams as temps were in the high thirties compared to lake temps in the mid-forties. Large numbers of steelhead are staged on the Lake’s shoreline and at river mouths. When the Lake cools down a big push of fish can be expected.

A total of 28 fish over 24″ long were checked in for the day. The majority of fish were caught in Conneaut Creek.

  5. John Rhoades = 24.25″
  6. (31 Anglers TIED for 6th)

The third leg of the OCBS “Members Only” Steelhead Tournament was held on Sunday December 15, 2019. A total of 7 fish over 24-inches long were checked in for the tournament.

A cold, windy and cloudy day with intermittent snow showers and temperatures in the low thirties. Anglers experienced tough fishing conditions as the legacy streams were blown out. However, the Rocky River was marginal and gave up a few fish. Anglers concentrated their efforts on fishing the small feeder steams and ditches with produced few fish. A tough day on steelhead Alley in Northeastern Ohio.

Congratulations to Robb Bolling who placed first with two fish measuring 25.50″ and 24.00″ inches.

The 4th Tournament Leg will be held Sunday March 15, 2020. Be sure to mark your calendar and plan to fish. Hopefully streams will be in good condition with plenty of aggressive fish.
