Speaker: Kevin Feenstra, MI Fly Fishing Guide and Fly Fishing Author
Topic: Matching Baitfish
Noted Michigan fly fisherman, Kevin Feenstra, will be the featured speaker at the February 23 Ohio Central Basin Steelheader meeting at the Firehouse in Willoughby Hills, OH. Kevin’s passion is swinging flies for migratory fish, but he loves to fly fish for any predator that swims. He now resides in Newaygo, Michigan, guiding around 200 days/year on the Muskegon River System (and fishing whenever he can). His flies have been published in books, magazines, and online and he has written articles for international, national, and regional fly fishing magazines.
Kevin is featured in a handful of DVDs and has authored current DVDs for steelhead and smallmouth bass. His most recent title is “Striking Steel” a DVD about Midwestern steelhead fishing. Other current titles are “Searching for Steelhead” and “Big Appetite, small mouth”.
In the past year, Kevin has participated in fly fishing shows in Indianapolis, Indiana, Cleveland, Ohio, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Warren, Michigan. During the off season, he often speaks at fly shops around the Midwest.
In addition to fly fishing, Kevin has developed a real passion for outdoor photography. Through photography he hopes to capture the special character of Midwest fish, rivers, and wildlife. His excellent photography will be on display in this presentation.
Kevin is a great speaker that you do not want to miss. I hope you can attend.

He has over 4 decades of fly fishing experience in both fresh and saltwater and is recognized as an expert on Great Lakes steelhead and warmwater fly fishing. Jerry was the first “fly fishing only” guide on Ohio’s Lake Erie tributaries and helped to pioneer many of the fly patterns and techniques used today. Recently, he has been most active in promoting fly fishing on the waters of the Great Lakes.
Jerry has authored numerous articles in a variety of publications and has recently had two books published: Fly fishing the Inland Oceans-An Angler’s Guide to Finding and Catching Fish in the Great Lakes and Fly Tyer’s Guide to Tying Essential flies for Bass and Panfish.
Jerry Darkes takes an annual trip to Bowman Island located on the north shore of Lake Superior in Ontario Canada to fish for huge coaster brook trout and wild steelhead.
The northern Lake Superior tributaries and Bowman Island is one of the most beautiful and remote fishing destinations in the Great Lakes. Jerry has explored these pristine Lake Superior tributaries, Nipigon River system and Bowman Island in search of trophy coasters and wild steelhead.
